Verify your sender domain
Verify your domain so your invoices and quotes reliably reach your customers' inboxes.
Why verify?
Gmail, Outlook, Bluewin and other providers check every email to see whether the sender is really allowed to send on behalf of the domain. Without that confirmation, emails end up in spam more often or get rejected altogether.
Verifying confirms once that Blond may send on behalf of your domain (e.g. your-company.ch). After that, your emails go out with your own address as the sender and arrive more reliably.
Note
Until your domain is verified, your emails go out as "Your Company Ltd via Blond". Replies still reach you. Learn more about senders in Set up emails.
What you need
- A sender address on your own domain, entered under Settings → Emails (Gmail, Outlook or Bluewin addresses don't work)
- Access to the account at the provider where your domain is registered, or someone from your IT who can do it for you
- About 10 minutes
TIP
Not sure where your domain is registered? It's usually the same provider that hosts your website or your mailboxes. If in doubt, ask your web designer or IT.
1. Start the setup in Blond
Open Settings → Emails, save your sender address and click Start setup in the Domain authentication tab.
Blond then shows you three DNS records. Keep this page open, you'll need the records in the next step.
2. Create the DNS records at your provider
Log in to your domain provider (in Switzerland e.g. Hostpoint, Infomaniak, Cyon or Switchplus) and open the DNS management for your domain. Depending on the provider, the section is called DNS, DNS records or DNS zone.
Now create a new record for each of the three rows in Blond:
Type: Choose CNAME.
Name: Copy the name from Blond, e.g. blond or bld._domainkey. Most providers add your domain automatically, so enter only the short name, not blond.your-company.ch.
Value (or target): Copy the value from Blond. It ends in sendgrid.net.
Warning
If you use Cloudflare, set the proxy status of all three records to DNS only (grey cloud). Otherwise Blond can't find them.
3. Wait for verification
Blond checks the records automatically every hour and emails you as soon as your domain is verified. New DNS records often take a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, to become visible everywhere.
If you don't want to wait, click Check now in the Domain authentication tab. Blond then marks each record as found or not found.
Once the domain is verified, Blond uses your address as the sender as soon as your subscription has been active for a short while. This happens automatically.
TIP
Simply leave the three records in place afterwards. Blond checks your domain daily. If the records go missing, you'll get a notification and have three days before your emails go out "via Blond" again.
If it doesn't work
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| A record is still marked as not found after several hours | Check whether the name was entered twice, e.g. blond.your-company.ch.your-company.ch. Enter only the short name. |
| All three records are missing | Check that you created the records for the right domain and that your provider saved them. |
| You use Cloudflare | Set the proxy status to DNS only. |
| A record with the same name already exists | Contact support before deleting anything. |
You can also forward this guide to your IT or web designer. Everything they need is in the Domain authentication tab.
