Reversing entries
Undo manual entries with a reversal instead of deleting them — and lock your journal against later changes if you need to.
Reverse instead of delete
A reversal offsets the original entry with debit and credit swapped. Both entries stay visible in the journal, so every correction is traceable — which is what auditors and fiduciaries expect.
In the journal, open the ⋮ menu of a manual entry and choose Reverse. You'll find the same action on the entry's detail page and in the account statement.
Reversal date: Blond suggests the date of the original entry. If that date is in a closed financial year or a filed VAT period, it suggests the first open date instead.
Reason: Optional. The reason is added to the reversal's description, e.g. "Reversal of TX-123: Wrong account".
The reversal uses the original entry's accounts, VAT rates, currency and exchange rate. Both entries are linked and marked in the journal with Reversal of … and Reversed by ….
Note
Only manual entries can be reversed. Automatic entries are corrected on their source document (see Correcting entries).
What applies after a reversal
| Entry | Edit | Reverse | Delete |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reversed entry | no | no | no, as long as the reversal exists |
| Reversal | yes | yes | yes |
If you reversed by mistake, delete the reversal. The original entry can then be edited as usual again.
Immutable journal
Many larger companies aren't allowed to delete or overwrite entries once they're recorded. The immutable journal is built for them.
Turn it on under Settings → Accounting (open directly) in the Journal section with Immutable journal.
DANGER
Once turned on, the immutable journal can't be turned off again.
From then on, manual entries follow these rules:
| On the day they're recorded | From the next day | |
|---|---|---|
| Delete | possible | not possible — reverse only |
| Edit | directly in the entry | reversal + new entry |
Editing from the next day: Open the entry as usual. The form shows the notice Changes are posted as a new entry and a Reversal date field. When you save, Blond reverses the original entry on that date and posts your changes as a new entry. Attached files are carried over to the new entry.
TIP
What counts is the day the entry was recorded, not its posting date. An entry you record today with a date last month can still be corrected freely today.
What isn't affected
Automatic entries from invoices, expenses and bank reconciliation still follow their source document.
Imports from Bexio or Banana can still replace their entries when you import again.
Disconnecting Stripe only removes imported Stripe entries in open financial years and open VAT periods. Reversed entries and their reversals are always kept — with or without the immutable journal.
